Per Fronth, born 1963, is an internationally reknowned Norwegian artist, represented by museums and galleries worldwide. His works are in the permanent collections of Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama, Japan, Biblioteque Nationale, Paris, Sørlandet Kunstmuseum, Norway, as well as in numerous private collections, like Sting & Trudie Styler and former US Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize Laurate Al Gore, MGM Grand , The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas, Grand Hyatt New York, and NATO.

Fronths storylines often focuses on the challenging aspects of the Human Condition. He has
produced many controversial - and yet successful exhibitions, like the Xingu Chronicles, New York, 1998 about the peoples of the brazilian rainforest fight for their deserved rights over their own land, BLOODLINES, London, 2000, focusing on the now outlawed English foxhunt with Prince Charles
- and the successful Theatre of War, addressing the struggle of exporting western democracy by the gun in war-torn Afghanistan.
His reocurring series Archipelago draws its inspiration from his own childhood by the coastline in
Southern Norway.

Per Fronth works with photography as his raw-material, creating photography as paintings; 
with representation of reality through the medium photography as only one of his works components, making his art a unique voice in contemporary art. Not the least has his background as a former
photojournalist in Verdens Gang, Norways largest daily, with worldstage as his backdrop, formed his visual point of view, his thematic storylines - and his artistic output.
Fronth produces works in large format - and has over the last few years concentraded on monumental commissioned artworks and projects.

Over the last few years Per Fronth has been awarded a string og prestigious commissions, among them for the Grand Hyatt New York (2010) to the the shipwharf Verftet in Ny-Hellesund, Norway in 2012.
In 2008 he created a 30 m2 photobased artwall in glass for the Michelin star restaurant Rouge Tomate Inc. on Fifth Ave, New York - a work realised in cooperation with reknowned Bentel & Bentel Architects ( Modern at MOMA).

Today Per Fronth ranks as one of Norway´s most popular - and controvercial artist. His works receiving admiration from collectors, critics and public alike - resulting in a string of sold-out exhibitions in both New York and Norway. He is represented by Dillon Gallery, New York, Gallery B15, Copenhagen,
Galleri Infill, Oslo and a number of other galleries in Norway.

In 2009 Per Fronth was awarded the title Nobel Artist - being selected to create the Nobel Peace Prize Diploma - awarded in 2009 to US President Barack Obama. 
This made Per Fronth the first photographer ever to be given the honor of making the Diploma.

Per Fronth is also an awardwinning film director. In addition to winning many prizes like PDN Grand Prize and ShortFilmsInternational in New York, his short-films “Ode to a Hunter “ ( 2000) 
and “Godiva “ (2001) was selected for the Official programs for Berlin, Toronto and Sundance film festivals those years.

The Norwegian publisher, Press Forlag, published in 2009 the first major retrospective artbook volume of Per Fronth´s works till date: Per Fronth. 
The 304 page volume was released in the US in October 2010 by DAP and artbooks.com.
The book is put in writing by Arthistorian Cecilie Tyri Holt ( NO) and Professor in Photography
John August Wood ( Sally Mann, William Ropp ).
The first edition is now sold out from the publisher - a rare feat for an artbook.

Per Fronth, f:1963, norsk billedkunstner. Fronths arbeider er i de permanente samlingene til bl. a. Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama, Japan, Biblioteque Nationale, Paris, Sørlandet Kunstmuseum såvel som i en rekke private og offentlige samlinger som Sting & Trudie Styler og tidligere amerikanske vise-president Al Gore, NHO, Ekebergrestauranten, NATO og MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

Fronth´s historiefortellinger fokuserer ofte på de utfordrende aspekter ved den menneskelige natur. Han har produsert mange kontroversielle - og likevel suksessrike utstillinger; som Xingu Chronicles, (New York,1998), som omhandlet regnskogfolkets kamp for egne rettigheter i Amazonas, Brazil,  BLOODLINES, ( London 2000) som  tok for seg den nå forbudte revejakten i England med Prince Charles - og suksessen i 2009, Theatre of War, som rettet søkelyset på norske kampstyrker som Demokratiets Soldater i krigsherjede Afghanistan.
 
Per Fronth arbeider med fotografi som sitt rå-materiale; han skaper fotografi som maleri - hvor den virkeligheten fotografiet gjengir kun er en komponent av i tilblivelsen og forståelsen av verkene hans - med det resultat at hans kunst er en uvanlig stemme på den kontemporære kunstscene.  Ikke minst har hans bakgrunn som fotojournalist i Verdens Gang med verdens om arbeidsfelt påvirket Fronths billedsyn og tema-oppbygginger - og kunstnerskap.
Fronth arbeider i store formater og har i de siste år konsentrert seg om monumentale bestillingsverk.

I de siste år har Per Fronth arbeidet med en rekke prestisjetunge bestillingsverk, et av de siste verk er nå installert i lobbyen til Grand Hyatt New York. I 2008 laget han en 30 m2 stor fotobasert glassvegg for Michelin restauranten Rouge Tomate Inc, på Fifth Ave i New York i samarbeid med Bentel & Bentel Architects ( Modern at MOMA ).

Per Fronth har bygget seg opp til å bli en av Norges mest populære - og kontroversielle kunstnere.  Hans arbeider vekker interesse fra både samlere, kritikere og publikum nasjonalt som internasjonalt som har resultert i en rekke utsolgte utstillinger i både New York og Norge.  Han er fast representert av Dillon Gallery, New York, Gallery B15, Copenhagen og en rekke gallerier i Norge.

Fronth har arbeidet med papirbasert kunst siden han startet kunstkarrieren sin i New York i 1990. Han gikk i lære hos Bob Blackburn og Esteban Chaves på legendariske Printmaking Workshop på Manhattan. Her arbeidet han med fotografi i møte med saltsyre og kobberplater.  I 2004 startet var Per Fronth sammen med Ørnulf Opdahl, Kjell Nupen og Bernt Bisseth en av initiativtakerne til KGV, Kristiansand Grafiske Verksted, som de siste årene har vært et viktig trykkeri for landets fremste kunstnere.  I dag produserer Fronth arbeider i normale 80 x og mindre opplag - hele tiden på jakt etter nye innfallsvinkler for å fortelle sine historier.  Blandingen av fotografi, moderne billedverktøy - og sitt eget håndarbeid bekrefter Fronths særegne kunst - også på papir.  Ofte innholder seriene av papirarbeidene hans et forsterket fokus på koloritt - kanskje i kontrast til en oppvekst med sort/hvitt fotografi.

I 2009 ble Per Fronth utnevnt til Nobel Kunstner - og ble selektert til å lage Diplomet til Nobels Fredspris som samme år ble tildelt til den amerikanske presidenten Barack Obama.  Fronth er første fotografiske kunstner som har mottatt tittelen.

Per Fronth er også en prisbelønt film regissør. I tillegg til å ha vunnet flere priser som PDN Grand Prize og ShortFilmsInternational, New York, har hans kortfilmer Ode to a Hunter "( 2000) og Godiva (2001) blitt invitert inn i de offisielle programene til Berlin, Toronto og Sundance filmfestivaler.

Kunstboken som Press Forlag utgav om Per Fronths arbeider i 2009 er allerede utsolgt. Boken er et oppsalgsverk på 304 sider  - den ble lansert i USA i 2010.  Volumet  er skrevet av kunsthistoriker Cecilie Tyri Holt og professor i photography, amerikaneren John August Wood  ( Sally Mann , William Ropp). Svært få kunstnere opplever å få beskjed om at lageret er tomt; et nytt og oppdatert opplag er allerede under planlegging.
